Per court documents, Marraccini and Laura Michelle Owens began a relationship in early 2016, which Marraccini tried to end in early 2017. During their relationship and afterwards, she threatened suicide, twice feigned a pregnancy with his child/children, stalked him, and claimed he physically and sexually abused her causing permanent injuries. She filed a domestic violence suit against him in 2018. She renewed that restraining order in 2020 and it's set to expire in 2025. In 2022, Owens allegedly described him in a TedX talk about how a note from a stranger convinced her to leave her abusive boyfriend.

2016

April: Laura Michelle Owens and Michael Marraccini meet on a dating app, The League. [1]

June: According to testimony from Laura’s mom, Jan Black, Laura told her that she was pregnant. The four of them went to dinner to discuss everything, and Laura and Michael agreed that having an abortion would be the best thing for them at this time. [2]

July: Laura and her mother claim that Laura had an abortion at this time.[2]

November/December: Michael calls his sister because he is distraught to learn that Laura had faked a pregnancy (and thus, faked threatening to get an abortion) and she was also threatening suicide. He asked for someone to come over to help mediate a conversation, so his sister’s boyfriend came over (Ronn Owens, Laura’s dad, was also present). According to Michael, his sister’s boyfriend, and Laura’s dad, Laura admitted to lying about being pregnant and only did it because she didn’t want to lose Michael. Ronn Owens told them that Laura “likes to make up stories in her head and then believes them”. [2] In the elevator as they were leaving, Ronn told Mike to get out of the relationship in a few weeks after his daughter had a chance to calm down.[2]

December 9: Laura’s mother, Jan Black, reaches out to Michael via text, asking him to contact Laura. He obliges. Laura tells Michael that if they are not together, she will kill herself. Michael calms her down. Laura enters a hospital for treatment and checks out the very next day. Jan blames Laura’s actions on eating gluten.(1/22 citation)

December 10: Ronn Owens, Laura’s father, texts Michael and asks him to tell Laura whatever she needs to hear to keep her alive. Ronn promises to get Michael “out of the situation” once Laura is safe. Ronn blames Laura’s actions on a concussion from the previous week and pills that she takes. (1/22 citation)

December 30: Laura Owens and Michael Marraccini travel to Iceland together via a WOW Airlines Flight. Owens later claims in her TedX Talk on January 6, 2022, that Marraccini subjected her to verbal and physical abuse throughout the duration of the trip, as well through the end of their contact in November 2017. [3] [4]

A fellow airline passenger, by the name of Karen, later submitted a statement in support of Owens, claiming she witnessed Marraccini verbally abusing Owens on the flight to Iceland. She slipped her a note on an airplane napkin during the flight.[4]

December 31: Laura texts back and forth with Michael’s sister. Laura states that Michael has “fantastic qualities” and that “Mike deserved the best, but it wasn’t me.” She states that the problem between she and Mike is that she loves him but he doesn’t have those same feelings in return. She blames her actions on anxiety, medicine, and him not posting her on his social media. [1] Contrary to that, Jan Black, Laura’s mother, stated that Laura was miserable the entire time and told her mother that Michael was abusing her.[2] It should be noted that Michael's sister included screenshots of Laura's texts to back up her testimony.

2017

According to Michael, he and the woman sat down at the same restaurant, and once he spotted Laura there, he and his date got up and left, with Michael promising his date to bring her back there the next evening.[2][7]

January 6: Michael and his date return to the same restaurant the next night, and they are seated directly next to Laura Owens and her mother. Laura gets up and introduces herself to Michael’s date.[7] Later that night, Owens sends a Facebook message to Marraccini's date, warning her of his "bullying, manipulation, and outright cruelness." [6]

January 8: Laura encounters Michael and his sister outside of a restaurant. According to both Michael and his sister, Laura begins yelling at them both and screaming obscenities at him because she was upset that he began dating someone new. 2024

April 30: In a court document in the Clayton Echard case, it was reported that Laura Owens claimed during her relationship with Michael Marraccini that she had ovarian cancer and had an ovary removed.

May 3: Laura filed an affidavit with the court stating that she never claimed that and the accusation is entirely false.

May 4:, Dave Neal and Megan Fox ran a fundraiser to hire a forensic investigator to look into Marraccini's laptop to verify where the reported documents originated from.[9]

May 7: The forensic report was released to the public, stating that they found the images to come from the phone number attached to Laura Owens. This seems to prove that the text messages are original and she did in fact send those to Michael.[10]

June 10: Michael Marraccini was called to testify at Laura Owens' trial vs. Clayton Echard, but time ran out before he was able to take the stand. Laura testified under oath that she never claimed she had ovarian cancer or had an oophorectomy while dating Marraccini.[11] When Marraccini arrived to the courthouse, Laura Owens' attorney, David Gingras, immediately called 911 to have him arrested. Gingras' claim was that she has a restraining order against Marraccini, but the police determined that he was subpoenaed and at a court house, so he was required to be there.

June 18: Judge Mata gave her ruling on the Clayton Echard case, stating that the Court cannot find that Laura Owens was ever pregnant with Clayton Echard's child/children and cannot establish paternity of a non-confirmed pregnancy. She also found that Laura Owens filed the case in bad faith, not grounded in fact or based in law, provided false testimony, and threatened to sue Clayton Echard for $1.4M in collateral allegations. Furthermore, Judge Mata is referring this matter to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review of Laura Owens' actions, as the Court has determined that Laura Owens has a pattern of similar, if not identical behavior, and court involvement.[12]
